About James Carter-Hargrove, Ph.D., ABMP
Hi! I’m Dr. James Carter-Hargrove. Kids I work with often call me Dr. H for short. The kids with me on the left are the 5 of our 8 still at home. Clinically I typically spend most of my time meeting and talking with kids, adolescents and their parents/foster parents. Many of the kids and adolescents are either in foster care or have just been removed from their parents for one reason or another. I spend about half of my time at Kids Kottage, the Washoe County Department of Social Services Emergency Care Shelter. I also regularly meet with adults, couples, and families. I also do various types of evaluations of parents and children.
My wife, Anne Carter-Hargrove, Ph.D., and I practice together. We see a plethora of different patient types and work within different treatment modalities (e.g. families where one person is struggling, families with dynamic and process issues, foster families, couples with distressed relationships, as well as individual adults, adolescents, and children).
We are commited to making every effort to support and help families succeed. We want to see happy couples, families, and kids. Developing as positive a life as possible is our goal…..Understanding and Meeting the Challenges of Life! Unfortunately, often the processes of moving lives forward is not predictable, even, or assured. Outcomes can be delightful or at times distressing.
Our personal experiences and value orientation help us appreciate the Spiritual Dimensions of life. Anne and I both grew up in a Protestant Spiritual Tradition. As a result, we understand the theological mindsets of most protestant and Catholic traditions and have a profound respect for all Spiritual Traditions.
